TitleLatest Competency Study Defines New HR Roles
ShortDescriptionThis is a report on the 2007 Human Resource (HR) Competency Study designed to identify major competencies that HR professionals need, and to track the major trends in the HR field. This report emphasizes that changing organizational needs require HR managers to more actively position themselves in organizations, and involve themselves in strategic planning.
LongDescriptionThis study suggests that beyond such critical human resources (HR) competencies as acting strategically, demonstrating personal credibility, having business knowledge, and using HR technology, HR managers need to be become experts at "credible activism", demonstrating having a point of view and taking a position at the organizational table. Other HR competencies highlighted in the survey include being a culture and change steward who can implement strategy, projects or initiatives, being a talent manager and organizational designer focusing on how talent enters, moves up, across or out of the organization, as well as on the processes shaping how the organization works, being a strategy architect who can recognize business trends, their impact on the business, and forecast possible obstacles to success, acting as a knowledgeable business ally, and being an operational executor who can adapt and efficiently implement needed workforce actions and policies. The study included responses from over 10,000 HR professionals and line managers.
